A large birdhouse in the park.
New Yorkers love a good knight.
The Ghostbusters building just south of exit 4 on the Holland Tunnel rotary.

St. Paul's Church, where George Washington attended services. New York burned in 1776, but this church survived. It also provided aid to those working on the World Trade Center after 9/11.

The Pulitzer Fountain at the southeast corner of Central Park.

The fountain at Strauss Park. Dedicated to Mr. and Mrs. Strauss who perished on the Titantic.

Palsey Fountain.

Below is the fountain at Columbus Circle on the southwest corner of Cental Park.

The Dyckman Farmhouse in northern manhattan. The house was saved from destruction by the descendants of the Dykman family and given to the city. It is a jewel in this overcrowded neighborhood. During the Revolution, Hessian soldiers camped in the farmland around this house.

The Dyckman Farmhouse.

The Morris-Jumel House. Washington used this house as his headquarters after the Battle of Brooklynn. From the hill that this house sits on, Washington could see the camp fires of the British and Hessians. He also saw New York City burn shortly after he evacuated his troops.

THE STATE
In Tappan is the Dewint house, where Washington stayed numerous times.

The tavern below is the Old 76 House. This is where British Major Andre was held during his trial for spying. Benedict Arnold had escaped. Washington came to oversee the trial and eventual hanging of Andre.

The marker for Major Andre. His body was buried at Westminster Abbey in London.
In Sugarloaf NY, Main St. is still a throw back with shops and craftspeople working.

The kids enjoyed exploring the craft stores and side alleys with quirky wares.
Newburgh has a Minuteman Statue in front of George Washington's Headquarters.

Below is the Hasbrouck Mansion that was Headquarters for Washington towards the end of the War, 1782-83.
In nearby New Windsor is the Ellison House where General Henry Knox stayed.

In Warwick NY, there is a Washington Festival every July 27. He dined at the Baird Tavern in town on that day and the citizens celebrate.
The tavern above above also hosted Martha Washington. Below is the general portrayed by Hugh Francis.

Warwick had a great day with re-enactors, live music, games for the kids, a tent city, cannon fire drills and black powder firings. They also taught the girls how to make garlands for their hair.

Below is the Fischer Center for the Performing Arts at Bard College.

Near Woodstock is Opus 40 below. Six acres of cut stone laid into place by one man over 37 years.

Steps up to the central platform.

Each stone was hand placed without cement. Here is one of the bridges.

These stones were laid out like large tables, with sidewalks out to clearings surrounding the work.

The stairs lead down to pools with fountains.

A view of the Hudson River looking south from the hill where Frederick Church and family lived. They lived in the Persian style palace below. It is called Olana.

In Rhinebeck, check out the Beekman Tavern below. In 1775, Washington stayed here and from his window observed the local militia's drilling. Many patriots dined and met here. FDR also dined here at the conclusion of each of his campaign victories for Governor and President.

Albany

FIRE ISLAND, OCEAN BEACH

The welcoming party. Deer roam the island.
Ocean Beach has a small village feel with shops and restaurants.

All walks lead to the beach with cottages on either side.

Watch out for the biker gangs.
Many pirates come to Ocean Beach searching for treasure. They don't see that Ocean beach is the treasure.
Have a good Knight.
